Loose Shift Knob, '04 HCH

Loose Shift ****, '04 HCH
The shift **** in my '04 HCH MT spins around when I'm shifting. I just bought the car, so I'm not sure if it was always like this. I can't turn it to tighten it because the boot is attached to the ****. Does anyone else have this problem? How can I fix it? Surprisingly, I searched everywhere for an answer to this and couldn't find it. Any help is much appreciated.
