Front suspension failure

Front suspension failure
Afternoon,
Im after advice on replacement parts.
Car; 2004 IMA, Manual transmission, right hand drive, UK, 80000+miles)
my front nearside damper has completely failed, leaving a bouncy front end and a badly scraped lower skirt. I have spoken with a local Honda dealer about getting it replaced, but they wouldnt sell just the one strut, they would only sell them as pair (which is fair, as replacing just one side can effect the cars handling, braking, balance etc). Problem, they want over £500 ($750 i think that is).
NOW, my question to all. I can get hold of (not without difficulty) front shocks of a 7th gen civic 2005, 1.6S. They're part numbers are only one digit out and having seen them, they are (by eye) identical.
Can anyone tell me if replacing both my front shocks with these will work? I have heard of people replacing the ima with fron Type R shocks to lower it, without any problems.
OPEN FOR DISCUSSION.....
Thanks, Lee.
