1st Gen Honda Hybrid (Insight & Civic) Oil Consumption
Looking for owners of 1st Gen Insight/Civic Hybrid owners with vehicles that have consumed oil (not leaked) and information regarding remedies sought and obtained.
I myself have a 2004 Civic Hybrid (AT-PZEV) that is consuming around 1 qt./2,000-miles. The dealer claims this is "normal" thus won't take action to "fix" a problem that isn't really a problem. On a 10,000-mile oil change cycle, this is not pleasing to my wife who is the daily driver.
Then there is the environmental impact of the oil burn (possibly putting the vehicle out of AT-PZEV compliance with the EPA) and the toll it's likely taking on the catalytic converter.
Any comments and suggestions appreciated!

Re: 1st Gen Honda Hybrid (Insight & Civic) Oil Consumption
Consuming oil is not right. I bought my 03 HCH brand new and have performed all the oil changes myself. (Mobil 1 0w20) I am now at 175,000 miles and HAVE NOT added any oil between changes.
Your dealer is wrong wrong wrong!!!! Go to another dealer. This guy is clearly a knucklehead.

Re: 1st Gen Honda Hybrid (Insight & Civic) Oil Consumption
I have spoken with two other dealer's service managers who have stated very clearly that Honda's "official" allowances are for up-to 1 qt./1,000-mile on ALL Honda vehicles (Hybrids are no different) so even on a vehicle with a warranty, unless it's worse than 1/1K, Honda won't do anything as it's not deemed a problem.
From speaking with the Honda customer service hotline, I have learned the same thing. What they refuse to do, however, is to put it in writing.
I encourage you to call your local dealer's service manager as well as the customer service hotline and ask the same question.

Re: 1st Gen Honda Hybrid (Insight & Civic) Oil Consumption
With our 06 I've noticed consumption of about 1/2 liter per 8000~9000km (our typical oil change interval), with around 85000km accumulated. That's a fair bit less than your experience, and about par with other Hondas we've had.

I went ahead today and filed a complaint with the California Bureau of Automotive Repair and will be obtaining a smog check this week which will likely substantiate my claim of the vehicle being out of compliance with AT-PZEV regulations.

I must have the "perfect car". I do not lose any oil between changes. (7,500 to 10,000 mi.) And, yes, I am knocking on a big piece of wood right now.
