Rubbing on one side with aftermarket wheels (advice?)
After much deliberation with the invaluable help of enthusiasts like Hyhoe, I decided to pick up a set of KMC Slides in 22s.
What's odd is that it's rubbing at full lock only on one side (front wheels). I eyeballed the wheel position to fender and the driver side wheel is slightly, teensy bit more inset than the passenger side. I know each car can be rigged up differently within manufacturing tolerances. The diff is very close. Very close, but still eyeballable.
I am rubbing at full lock when driving forward taking a left. Here's a shot from the top of the driver side tire rotating the steering wheel counter-clockwise (no rubbing opposite lock, pass side):
My tire shop advisor had their alignment person try to adjust the sway bar to get more room, but it just wasn't enough clearance. The inside part of the tire is rubbing against it making a squeegee noise. I'm sure it's harmless - just not ideal.
We thought about changing the caster, but the bar moves with the hub. Any bright ideas on how I can remedy this other than getting skinnier tires, adding spacers, etc?
Tires are 305/40/22 Toyo Proxes ST II. I thought also about researching a tire that runs skinnier same sizing since it varies slightly by manufacturer to manu.
Thanks for listening to my babble. I hope my experience can serve as a lesson learned for future modders.
