Default Question of the Day:

Trick question of the day: (Lets see who knows their "stuff")

If installing an aftermarket air intake system (pre TB) for efficiency and/or performance, which might include cold air box, pre-filter, high flow filter and air tube, what other item/device should one consider installing?

HINT: I have named the OEM air tube "The Alien".

Are you thinking about adding a throttle body spacer?

From what i have heard, Spacers work better on throttle body injected vehicle but not so much on an multiport injected, MPI. Meaning instead of the fuel spraying directly into the throttle body the fuel is sprayed through multiple injectors directly into the intake manifold runners. A spacer helps TBI vehicles by increasing the amount of air inside the intake manifold that the fuel has to mix with, more air = more power. Since you're injectors are more directed to a cylinder, a spacer would not help as much with increasing airflow.

NOPE!

Hint #2: Lift off the engine cover (it just pops up in front and detaches with a little pull forward). Look at the architecture of "The Alien".

The Alien is unique to hybrid small blocks. The other 2 tubes we sometimes call the double barrel. But yes it does look like the Alien. Removing any of those Helmholtz resonators can change the power curve, sometimes better or just more "pipey". In V4 it may go MOO.

That government pass by noise specification.

NOT a throttle body spacer. I doubt these devices increase MPG significantly. However they may have a benefit if adding HHO to aid in the air gas mixture.

Hint #3: In addition to the Helmholtz tubes of "The Alien" to enhance intake noise cancellation it serves another purpose. It has a series of mesh screens in the cavity. What are these for ??

These mesh screens were added to the OEM intake tubes in C6 Corvettes to alieviate a specific problem in the C5 Corvette. This modification seemingly cured the problem, however some screens disslodged and became lodged in the throttle body or were ingested into the intake manifold.

So the "Question of the Day" remains - If we replace the OEM intake tube ("The Alien"), and replace it with a performance intake tube; what should we also install ?
