ICE Engine starting up sounds like crap!
I just picked up a Yukon Hybrid and when I first start the truck and the ICE fires up it sounds like crap! I can't describe the sound but it sounds like the engine is about to fall out of the truck! When it transitions from autostop to ice it is very smooth and quiet. Is this normal?
in a few 2008's there was a problem with the engine oil galleries and they replaced some of the engines due to this. Apart from an occasional lifter noise on the right bank of my engine (when its below zero and started cold) mine is totally quiet and normal. the tick goes away in mine after 30 seconds or less.
It's a 08, it's not a tick, it sounds like the engine is about to fall out of the truck! The sound only last a second or so until the truck is started. It's just very "nasty" sounding. I know the Hybrids don't have a starter but my TCH and FFH sound "normal"
When was the last oil change? And was a factory AC Delco filter used?
I have done a couple oil changes on mine since I got it. At the first one, the car had sounded quite clackety at start for a couple weeks. It had a jiffy lube sticker in the windshield and a Penzoil filter. After the change, the sound went away. I had used Mobil 1 and a factory filter. Changed oil agian after about 3500 miles (50% oil life in the DIC) and immediatley after the sound was back. I used the same oil, but had gotten a Napa Gold filter since the AC Delco from the dealer cost me over $9. Until my oil change today, the car rattled for a moment after start-up. I changed the oil again, with Mobil 1 and an AC Delco filter from O-Reily's auto ($4.16) and no sound what so ever.
If you do it yourself, you'll be out less than $40 and it'll tell you whether or not you need to see the dealer, not to mention being able to tell them it isn't oil related (keep receipts).
