The compressor on the hybrid is not engine belt driven. It is powered by the HV battery system. It's mounted to the engine right front lower in the same place as conventional, There are a pair of HV wires leading from the power electronics/inverter box down to it. The dealership service/scan tool can force the compressor to run at specified speeds. That may be worthwhile to try and isolate the noise maker.

Like I said it made the same noise at 200 miles and now at 172k miles? I would think it is normal. Some escalade hybrid sounds are akin to an embraer jet taxiing on the Tarmac/runway.

I love it especially when it lets out a crackling electrical transformer sound!

Did you guys see the new Harley? From what I have heard Harley Davidson wants their new electric motorcycle to have a distinctive sound as well. They run the inverter and motor controls to make noises on purpose.
