Default 2008 Hybrid transmission fluid and filter change procedure

Good Evening All

I'm about to do a general service on my 08 hybrid after 80,000 miles. The rest of the fluids seem easy enough to do (oil, tcase, and axles). My concern is the transmission. As far as I know it takes dexron VI, is there anything else I should know about before doing a fluid and filter change? I don't have access to a service manual and Im pretty concerned on what I should do with the auxiliary pump??

Thank you

I've done mine twice. make sure you buy both filters, I believe only oem gm are available. rock auto is where I got mine. there's a drain plug in the pan of mine. but word of warning, all 14qt come flowing out. have a huge container/buckets or you'll have a big mess. I reused the pan gasket, it was rubber and in good shape. most auto tranny only take 4-6qt for a filter change. this drops it's whole load since it doesn't have a torque converter.

first time I bought oem acdelco dextron 6 which is the safest. I don't remember the part number off hand.

the 2nd time I used amsoil dextron 6. I honestly don't know if it's better or not. but I wanted the best and my searches always lead to amsoil is the best oil and tranny fluids but expensive.

I had to remove the 2 bolts on the aux pump to get the pan down, first time I reused the gasket. 2nd time I replaced it. Just 2 bolts and let it hang. it seems fine. Just don't over tighten the bolts, they're very long and thin. tq specs in the inch lb range type thing.

if you have a little spare money, you might consider sending off a sample of the old fluid to black stone labs for a report on how the tranny is doing. they can give you a lot of info. the report from my sample is uploaded on here somewhere if you want to take a look.

either way, good thing you're changing it. these trannys are kinda the life of these trucks. when it goes, a used one is about your own option. they do seem to last a very long time when taken care of thou. seems double what a standard gm auto lasts.

Thank you. I currently have filter with GM part number 19168277 and the genuine GM fluid pan gasket which is listed as the correct one. Is this right? Will also be buying ac delco dexron VI tomorrow so I can start with the work. Is there any special procedure to follow? Or is it just a drain, remove pan, change filter, and refill?

Thank you

I used this part number from rock auto for the 2 filters. 19168277. Just make sure you get the old rubber grommets out and new ones in.

other than that nope just a lot of fluid. drain, swap filters, put the pan back and fill.

Thanks for that. And yes I needed it. Do you think its fine to reuse the first time? I'm from the Philippines and the only way I get parts for our hybrid here is when I go to the US periodically. So will have to wait till the next trip.

Looking on the forums now. I see 4 bolts on the aux trans pump. Am I right that these are the ones I have to remove or are the two bolts located elsewhere? Photos show different pumps from different years I think. Just wanna make sure before I tackle this work tomorrow
