I just brought home my new 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid today. It had been sitting on the lot for about 6 months, and already had 560 miles on it. I drove it around town today, with the AC on. I am a conservative driver - no jackrabbit starts or hard accelerations, and gentle stops. However, each time I turned the engine off and got a trip summary, it showed that I had only averaged about 25 mpg. Am I doing something wrong? I know that the AC brings down the mileage, but should it be down by that much? Could there be something wrong with the car? Any advice (or reassurances!) would be very welcome.

I replaced a 13 year old Subaru Outback with 166,000 miles on it that was still getting 20-25 mpg. It was a great car. I chose to get the Fusion Hybrid rather than a new Outback because of the estimated 41 mpg city mileage. I'm going to be really bummed if I can't even crack 30 mpg!

 

My apologies to everyone for the panicked newbie posting. And thanks to the designers of this website - it pointed me towards some postings on the Prius page that really helped me figure out what was going on. I'm delighted to report that I managed to get to 39.2 mpg today! I can relax now, and really get excited about my new hybrid car!

 

Hi Kber, no worries, you've made a great purchase. I've had my 2010 FFH for 14 months and 16K miles, and it just keeps getting better. Now at 45.3mpg and rising now during the warm months. I'm thinking 46 or more by summer's end. Then of course, back down she goes!
