2008 Ford Escape Hybrid, Black Pearle with leather Beige interior. Equipped with remote key entry, and silencer alarm for added protection. Under manufacturer warranty. 40-50 mpg, and does not use gas for intown travel going under 40mph. Brand new, desperately wanted to sell. Asking price is $35,000.00

(I added the bold & color for my emphesis)
As listed it's starting bid is 40k, and it lists 13k miles, what a deal!

I'm guessing a "forced" sell for divorce or something??
But commo'n, there's streatching the truth a little to flat out lieing about 40-50 & in town driving! (yes I know some of you city folk can do some city driving in EV, but not all city driving!)

But on the plus size, DANG that's a heck of a good resale value!!!

That ad is a bit of a stretch. More times than not, even in city driving you're using gas while under 40 mph.

There are FEH owners who have 40+mpg lifetime averages. Most of us can obtain a 40+ mpg ride or even a tank but on a regular basis, it is difficult to do so due to a variety of factors.

According to SC, I have achieved a 40+ mpg Avg for a trip, but not any longer than that, as you see below my lifetime avg is 28.something.
I have switched to 100% vs E10 gas 2 tanks ago, and thus far have increased to 29.6 &31.1 tank avg's so far. So it's getting a little better, but still a far cry from 40-50!

I just had my best tank (over 530 mi) so far @ 39.2 and am happy with that. I cannot imagine ave. over 40 on any tank, much less lifetime, maybe a trip here and there...

It's not just the FEH/MMH that can average between 40 to 50 MPG, it's a combination of the vehicle and the driver. I think Billy was referring to me because I have a lifetime average of ~45mpg in my '05 FWD FEH. That's 48,000 miles of city and highway driving with about 25% at least with the A/C compressor running when the ICE is on.

Driving on roads with no hills and hot weather leave me at a handicap here in Florida. Florida has gone to E-10 and it's hard to maintain 43mpg tanks, but I don't see anything less than a 40mpg tank even with E-10 ever. I don't drive fast, but I don't drive slow either.

I have a '09 FWD FEH on order since 4/22/08, and I'm hoping the new improvements will yield me 50-60mpg tanks. I'm sure I'll get negative post on this post on this site which is why I don't post here anymore. Look at the Hybridfest '07 MPG Challenge where I hold first place in the 26 mile round trip of 61.8mpg in the '05 FWD FEH. See my reviews on the new '09 on Hybridcars.com and CleanMPG.com in the future.

Wow! A 45mpg lifetime average can exceed what some Prius drivers obtain and reveals what the true potential is/can be for this vehicle under your conditions. Looking forward to reading how "improved the 2009 model is".

Yes, I understand completely the skill involved in driving the FEH to it's full potential, and try to do as well as I can, and have been able to manage trips to the city and back (about 40 mi) at over 40 mpg in my 2008. I turn the ICE off at initial stoplights after starting in the morning, double-tapping when possible, going to low when approaching a stop, try to drive at the limit less 5-10% on the freeway, and slowly accelerate from full stops to get as much as I can (keeping the tach under 1500 rpm when possible). I am sure there are other hypermilage techniques I can use to continue to improve. I do, however, try not to annoy others on the road when in traffic, and end up getting the rpms over 2k at times. One of the main detriments to my typical commutes are that they tend to be no longer than 20 minutes at a time, anything longer I would expect see the ave. going up even more.

Congrats on the 2009 order, enjoy the new system (I'd like to upgrade now myself!)
