The switch is hooked to a relay that controls the driving lamps on the Westin Safari bar.

The flaps are the Husky molded ones (same as the Ford ones but without the Ford emblem & about 1/2 the price) Those flaps look nice, but really aren't big enough to protect it very well (I am thinking of changing to longer ones).

Back to the tire issue if you dont mind. My 2008 should be here in about 3-4 weeks. I was wondering if I should take it right away and swap out the tires while the original ones still have new trade in value.

I live in Indiana. We have maybe 10 snow days a year to deal with. I need something that does do well in snow. Especially since I just purchased the FWD version. I have always used the BFGoodrich Long Trails or All Terrians in the past. I am open for suggestions.

As you might have guessed some folks worship the Conti's for the extra 0.50mpg or whatever gain they fetch.

They are absolutely and needlessly LOUD and HARD. If I could do it over again I would put 'em up for auction with 12 miles and the little nubs on them because I drove directly to my tire dealer and swapped them out for a new set of GOOD tires.

 

Supposedly LRR tires will give you 2-3MPG. I read that somewhere. I don't think it was on an FEH however nor these tires specifically.

That being said... they are fine... I have no problems driving with them whatsoever and they may or may not be noisy but it doesn't seem that noisy to me. Are there far better tires out there... yes, softer compounds will be quieter, will grip better and get a bit less mileage.

Are you an idiot for keeping them... no.
Are you an idiot for getting softer tires with some more grip... also no. If you feel more comfortable with every bit of traction you can get and like the ride of a softer compound GO FOR IT! Its called personal preference some people like a stiffer ride than others! Lets not berate each other for it.

 

I have the originals on my 08 FEH. Since I haven't had anything to compare to, I don't think they are loud or hard. I plan on driving them until they are bald. If what others have said is true, 80,000 miles, then I'll replace them with the FEH in about 8 years But I have my doubts about that.

I need to buy a set for my 00 Expedition now. First set I've had to purchase in 67k miles. (first set was recalled somewhere around 15-20k)

I measured the tread on a new 2007 ( with only a dozen miles ) with a micrometer, and the tire tread depth when new is really close to 9mm.

At 39,000 miles, my front tires have 5.76mm left, and my rear tires have 5.97mm of tire tread left.

2mm is legal tread depth, and at this rate, these will last 80,000 miles, or a tad bit more on my 2005 FEH.

From zero to ~8,000 miles I had about 35 psi in the tires. From 8,000 to 39,000 miles, I've had 44 psi in my tires.

Hey pb,

I wouldn't worry about the Conti's doing well in the snow. They do well, just not great. Personally I find them noisy, but not enough to rush out and buy new tires when these still have half their tread.

I had no real problems with them in Boston during the last two winters, and you shouldn't have any issues in Indiana either.

I am very curious the difference in mileage that is seen with the Bridgestones.
