Sorry, KenE, not to have added that BTM was disfunctional as well. I have been looking at Tav for a few days and noted that at least it always starts out reflecting ambient temperature, which is a crosscheck of sorts. Highest Tav to date was 93F the day before yesterday, when the OAT here in Stuart, Fl was 86F or so.

BTW, after doing that 3 and 6 button press on the nav system panel yesterday, which gets one into the diagnostics, I noticed that the system reads the DTC's and can acknowledge ( get rid of, I think ) them. Thus one doesn't need the ScanGuage for that activity if you have the 2008 nav.

John, Since we bought the car Oct 21, 2007, it's never been warm enough here to see Tav temps as high as you report. If car does sit long enough, Tav and ambient are one and the same. But off for less than 8 hours, if Tav was like 77-78F, in my attached garage, it might still be 10deg F warmer than ambient - The HV battery is slow to cool

I don't have the NAV system, so can't comment on that. Sorry! I rely on SGII a lot.

 

2008 Escape AWD

Scanguage codes for CHT do not work on my car. Readings are off by factor of ten.

To make CHT work, I changed MTH to 001400010000. This made CHT and FWT agree on cold engine.

Highest SOC I have seen was 64.8% after descending 3 mile 7% grade with engine hot. Normally it stays around 55% +- 2%

I just tried to read Traction Battery Temp (BTM) on my scanguage, and it returns no readings at all.

 

What version of the Scanguage II unit do you have? 13.5? 13.5*? 13.4?

I have ver 3.15 (no *)

 

I have version 3.14 which works correctly and 3.15* which does not. Version 3.15 is the newest version and should read all of the FEH X-guages correctly. What reference are you using to input the X-guage "codes/numbers?"

 

Has anyone inquired into updating from 3.15* to 3.15? I assume this is a hardware problem and not upgradable?

I suppose I could swap SG's with my wife's, used in a non-hybrid '99 4Runner.

 

Send an e-mail to Scanguage on this situation. I did late last year and was told 3.15* should work like 3.15.

 

I'm going to start recommending to people that they disconnect the SG when the car will sit for a week or longer. My SG slowly depletes the 12v battery when just sitting there. The backlight comes on and stays on for some reason. Usually there is an "event" such as opening the car door or hood that "wakes up" the SG then it never goes back to sleep. However, there have been a couple of "ghost in the machine" moments, when I have come back to find the SG lit for no reason. After two separate, 2 week idle times, (separated by months) I came home to find my 12v battery at 11.3 volts. Do lead batteries self discharge? Yes, but not that quickly.

Assume the SG takes 1 watt with the backlight on.
Over a week, that's eqivalent to starting the engine MANY times, ( with a traditional 12v starter ) without giving the car the opportunity to recharge.

I'm estimating the 1 watt part. It could be twice as much, or half.
But still is not good for the 12v battery over a 2 week period of this.

Finally, I just learned that the volts meter on the SG does not use the CAN bus or a PID. It is simply reading the wires that power the ScanGauge. You can read 12v battery voltage at any time, even with the key removed from the car. Makes sense when you think about it.

 

A starter motor draws well over 200A, so even at 200A, 12V, it's 2400W.
