Gary... Maybe it's from all your FAS and FS and Neutral shifting and running your car in a method it was not designed for???

I've been guilty of doing some "extra" gear shifting myself, and now my brake-shift-interlock is broke. That is, I can take mine out of park without my foot on the brake now. Everything else runs fine, and my MPG is still very good. -J

John, we could all do "maybe", but Ford has identified a serious fix needed for the HV battery. If anything, I may have charge/discharge my battery more than anyone possible in 40,000 miles. Weather it's the semi recall or my EV use, we may never know.

My shifter works like new, so maybe that release trick from Park to neutral was the wrong thing for your problem. Who knows?

If I get a fresh pack, my mileage should increase with my driving techniques that I've settled with.

One of the first things my Service Rep. said today was I've read your post on the internet. I may offer the dealership a copy of my Hybridfest MPG Challenge video if everything works out great with my vehicle.

May be fanning the flames here...

No offense Gary...but I would NEVER...EVER...subject my FEH to the constant "shifting" techniques you do.
Nor, would I be recommending it to others.

Just my .02 cents. The car wasn't designed for it. We'll never know if it causes premature wear, but I don't want to find out.

Of course I only get 30mpg...but I'm happy with that!!

I thought this "recall" was to correct a false problem indicator? Not an actual HV battery problem?...

Are there any 2007 FEH owners that have not received a notice on this? It's been a few weeks since this thread started and I have still not received a notice. I have a 2007 FWD purchased in late October 2006.

Thanks,

Rick

No notice here. My 2007 AWD was purchased in February. I moved in April, but since I'm financing the car through Ford (0% 5yr) they obviously know where I live. Maybe there's a range of manufacturing dates that are not effected.

Nate, it is true I use the FEH system to the max to improve mileage. My year round heated conditions hasn't helped either. Ford needs someone who will put the best designed system in the World to the test, and I think I've done just that. I've gone 40,000 miles and averaged over 45mpg, but I changed the oil with the best, change the oil filters, air filters and battery filters with factory Motorcraft since day one before they needed changing.

Would you want to pay $8,000 for a new battery after 100,000 miles and only got 30mpg? Not me Nate. Do the math and see if your happy with that.

Ford just got a real test of their design and a problem with the battery resister or harness they are claiming. I'm happy getting 50% better mileage than you. We all can choose our path in life and I'm cheep if I can be.

We will see what tomorrow brings!

No, but $8,000 after every 100,000 miles (at 30mpg) is better than $8,000 after every 40,000 miles (sans warranty at 45mpg)

I'm quite happy.

I'm just a little stupified by your assertion that all of a sudden "Ford just got a real test of their design and a problem with the battery resister or harness they are claiming.", when more then likely (MHO) you may have exceeded the design limitations of the hardware.

Let's just share all the facts before jumping to the conclusion that your HV battery problem is due to a bad design vs. excessive or "unintended" usage. (What remains to be seen is whether your problems are related to the recall or not! Ford contends it is a "false" indicator that may cause the engine to shut down, not a true battery issue)

You're right Gary, we all make choices. I wish you all the best in the long run.

Nate

PS-- There is no reason to believe the battery packs will only last 100,000 miles. I'm sure Ford would not have warrantied anything for 150,000 miles if they weren't reasonably sure they were going to make it. And there are several taxis in NYC well over 175k with no battery probs.

Let's no scare the newbies or potential future FEH owners with misinformation...

I haven't gotten any notice either.

Mine was built the week of Sept 11, 2006. The first week of the factory applied butt-squeak fix.

Have my 2005 FEH 4WD Nov. 2004 build date at the dealer.
Service Advisor says they have done several.
See how it goes.
