MPG on first-start electric
Something else unusual happened this morning. I was at full warm up (having driven for 15 minutes), HWT at around 160, sitting at a stop with the engine off, waiting for a stop light. When I accelerated, the FEH went into the "early morning cold start" mode for about 15 seconds - the engine went to about 1550 RPMs and the TPS stayed at 17, regardless of how hard I used the pedal (within reason, of course). After about 15 seconds it reverted to normal operation.
I sure wish I could figure out what enabled this behavior - I could use it to accelerate to cruising speed on a regular basis. I think I may have stumbled on a programming quirk in the FEH computer module. Of course it may only occur at certain environmental levels - it was damp this AM due to rain, for example, and about 55 degrees.

I posted about something similar last summer; I called it drive-thru warm-up mode because it happened several times while waiting in a Sonic drive-thru. Temps in the 90's, FEH well warmed up, I would shift into N and then back to D to creep forward as the line moved. By the time I got to the window, SoC was low so I left it in N to keep the ICE off in case the SoC dropped below 40%. After shifting into D and driving away, car was in warm-up mode, but stayed there for more like 20 or 30 seconds. One time when I accelerated fairly quickly up to 45MPH (in a 40 zone, to avoid being rear-ended) the SoC dropped all the way to 31.3% before the warm-up mode ended.
Why were you shifting into "N" and then "D"? If the engine is off and SOC is OK, why not just leave it in "D"?
If in D, and the engine cools below a setpoint, the engine will come back on just to make heat. Sounds stupid. But it's for emissions reasons.
On a side note, I haven't been able to reproduce the "hot engine" startup.
However, I did notice that the TPS does not settle in on a level for several seconds. I would have expected it to find a TPS and stay there immediately, instead it goes up from 11 to 16, 17,18, or whatever - and then settles down between 16 - 18 TPS.
