Default Just picked up a new to me '05 FEH

Hi folks,
picked up an '05 FEH this past weekend, it will replace an aged '06 Rendezvous as the 'family car'. I got just a tad under 29mpg according to the dashboard monitor, but It seemed to drink gas on the trip home (500 miles or so, I'm sure it has sat awhile at the dealer and as we all know nobody sells a vehicle because it is in Perfect condition.

Couple of minor interior issues with it, but the greatest concern to my wife (primary driver) is that the distance to empty estimate on the dash is nowhere near what reality is. I"m hoping that a couple of tanks of non ethanol gas will help with the economy.
See you on the boards!

Congrats and welcome to the board. Unless you were drafting on your return trip home, the fuel economy drops significantly in my experience at speeds over 65 MPH. These are not particularly aerodynamic vehicles.

I can certainly verify that. This past weekend my daughter used my FEH for a trip. Two 250 mile tankfuls (there & back) yielded 28 MPG at 70 MPH where I always get about 32-34 at the 60 MPH I usually drive. (same road)

Thanks folks!

I'm fully aware that it is basically a comfortable Brick going through the air, and don't get me wrong I'm Happy with 29 mpg! I'm suspecting however that the trip computer/gauge cluster is a tad optimistic. I'm keeping track for a tank or two and will calculate the old fashioned way. My wife will simply have to keep an eye on the fuel gauge and not trust the 'miles to E' readout.

I've discovered that I have the dreaded right rear door latch issue, I'm suspecting the wiring is frayed or the switch itself needs replacing, as the 'Door Ajar' warning came on for that door when I drove over some expansion joints yesterday. I have a mechanic in the family, so it will simply be 'buy the parts' and he'll do the work for me. Still painful, but not quite as much as at a Dealership.

I will check the oil level, from what I've read here, it may be a bit too High at the moment, which I suspect is affecting the fuel economy as well.

Appreciate the warm welcome!
