You need clearance for the A/C freon lines on the rear of the car.
Some hitches need a "notch" for this.
However, it seems as of late, all hitches now come with this notch so retailers do not need to stock two part numbers.
I put on a "Hidden Hitch" for a Mazda Tribute and it came with the proper clearance for the A/C lines.
Also, I didn't buy any wireing harness or electronics kit.
I simply tapped and spliced into exsisting tail lamp wires and it works great.
I have a 2005, but I don't see significant differences in later years.
It tows 1500 pounds great and gets 25 MPG.
It tows 3500 pounds with a bit of a struggle on hills, and gets 18-19 MPG.
An amazing little truck. And with the CVT, it doesn't "hunt" for the right gear like an Auto would.

My experience is that the FEH has all the guts it needs to tow. Watch the lights issue. The system senses amps drawn by lights and will shutdown a light if it thinks there is too much draw. So the wiring harness must have a separate power line to the added lights that are on the trailer.
Your dealer is just blowing smoke. An FEH is rated for 1,000#, but Ford seems really nervous about the FEH towing.
Mine worked just fine.

BTW I found a repair manual for 2004 - 2007 FEH that has the wiring schematics so I am finally going to be able to install the wiring harness. I'll let you know if it works.
