Red face Re: Hbyrid net power output as 155 HP

Any chance they measured hp at the shaft on a dynamometer?

Yea, the writer may have been given older data and didn't notice the change in the Spec sheet he included in the article. Looks like 65KW at 87hp and 70KW at 94hp was raised, but it make sense how everything changed.

Someone should post dyno runs! Of course a 4WD should have less whp than a FWD because of mechanical losses. It would also be interesting to see if different model years have different outputs. If 155hp is accurate, we could guess 20% loss or 125whp for a FWD and 116whp for a 4WD. But the CVT may be more efficient mechanically than a conventional automatic, so these numbers could be higher.

Its always possible they measured 155hp peak with a dynamometer at the wheels too.

While possible, with the hybrid's 0-60 times being pretty slow, I don't think that's it. Even though Ford likes to claim V6 performance, the hybrid actually comes out about 1/2 way between the gas I4 and the gas V6.

Yes, and it seems there would be little reason for Ford to use a low hp number when they wouldn't have to, even for a 'green' vehicle. Or are there examples of understated power for hybrids?
Now that I think about it some more, 20-25% drivetrain loss is probably too generous, it's probably more than that given its complexity.
The power curves from a dyno will be interesting to see, as they are probably not very linear.

Okay, 0 - 40 MPH the Hybrid will beat the V6.
During the last 1/3 of the test, the V6 pulls ahead.

So it depends how you look at it.
To me, under most conditions, it is about equal to a V6.
