Out of curiosity, how much for a new one?
My Rav4's fuel filter was considered lifetime (but only if in the US), was in the fuel tank and was over $100, so needless to say, I didn't replace it as routine maintenance.

See, that could be replaced under periodic maintenance, although I suspect it's large enough where it could be lifetime under normal conditions. It was the little ceramic ones (the size of a thimble) that needed replacing a lot.

Only 48k... I would have guess a LOT more than that.
If you could prove you consistently filled at one station (to the owner of that station), they might R/R your filter. Maybe they don't do that these days.
Still I'd talk to the place you fill and complain and threaten to go somewhere else.
