That has been my experience with CR too.

I have caught them in so many blatant errors, that IMHO they have no credibility anymore. Stuff were if they just bothered to read the owner manual, they would have found that the problem was with them, and not the vehicle.

It would be as if CR wrote something like "The FEH is a bunch of crap. The gas engine is so bad, it stalls out at just about every red light we stopped at!".

Consumer Guide almost killed Audi with their inaccurate report on the 5000. Also killed Isuzu with the report on the Trooper. I owned a Trooper at the time, best vehicle i ever owned except for the FEH They used to be unbiased. now they are just a magazine. Next thing they'll say Dell's explode in flames! oh no!

Even in 0 degree weather and terrible roads I am getting 26. I do park in a garage at night which is at least 45 degrees.

Sorry if I'm going off topic but, yes, I remember well when they jumped on the "sudden acceleration" bandwagon. When one of the major magazines tried to replicate it, they actually recorded a couple of incidents after much testing. Problem was, in each case the driver swore they were pushing the brake but was on the gas pedal. I loved their photo of an Audi running "out of control" and the brake lights are off.

Ditto the rollover debacle: The Trooper was just driven badly. We all heard about Exploreres getting blowouts. While that was a known tire problem, the rollover part was unjustly exaggerated. All manner of Explorers have been repeatedly rigged for blowouts at freeway speeds and tested, and they don't roll unless you get a flat and crank the wheel sharply while slamming on the brakes.

It's called "driver error".
