Two dumb questions.
1. Which way is the air flow on the battery filter? My old filter had no markings, but my new one indicates which way to put it in based on the air flow direction.
2. On my 2005 Escape, there are 4 screw covers/caps you have to remove before you unscrew the cover plate over the cabin filter. I lost two of them (perhaps my dog??), any chance you can find those little caps somewhere? I don't want the screws rusting out.

This is what you are asking for. The caps come in a bag of four and I was charged $8.00 at my local Ford dealership.

Just found that the local K-Mart now stocks a Purolator oil filter. It sells for less than $5. It has the green large o-ring and the inner cage. I'll be trying that one with the next oil change.

I bought the service manuals on-line. Got them from a bookstore I found on Google. They cost me $60. Saw them later on EBAY for $25. So I copied the most difficult filter replacement. The cabin Air replacement takes 2 operations. First the Right Cowl Panel to get access to the water shield. I have attached both. I can do others if requested.

Ok, this gets even dumber, but... the arrows on the battery air filter, do they point IN the direction of air flow (so they should point down) or do they point at where the air flow starts (so they'd point up)? My filter has a slightly different texture on either side, so I just want to make sure I'm getting the most out of it.
Also, does a dirty air filter make the gas mileage worse?

The arrow is more of a reference mark than anything.
When you take it out to inspect it, put it back in the same way each time so the "dirty" side is always up ( towards the window ) and the clean side is down (towards the battery).
It does not matter which way you put in a fresh, clean, new one.
One guy who lives on a dirt road in the desert takes his out every few months, gently washes it with water, lets it dry overnight, and puts it back in.
If there are no holes, you can wash and re-use.
It is NOT a super critical part.
Unless it is mostly or totally plugged, ( unlikely ) it won't affect MPG.

Sometime in the 2009 FEH model year, Ford changed the oil filter to Motorcraft FL-910S which is a spin on conventional filter. Thought you might want to change your list of filters. RockAuto lists the Fram 3614 series as compatible (also listed the 3614 as replacing PH9566), along with the WIX 51348, Bosch 72161 or 3330 (not sure which one, it lists both), and ACDelco PF53.
