Default Acorns in my 09 FEH engine air filter

I found acorns in my 09 FEH engine air filter when changing the air filter. (see photos). Obviously squirrels or chipmunks are able to store their acorns here. Can someone tell or show me how best to keep these critters out of the air filter compartment without affecting the air filter performance? Thanks in advance.

Wow!

I had that happen on my F150, but they seemed to ignore my FEH that was parked next to it. Try spraying some Grandpa Gus-s rodent Repellent Spray in your engine compartment, or some peppermint or cinnamon oil.
