In general, the more you use EV mode, the better your MPG will be.
Like they say, if you don't use it, you loose it.

Why carry around a 200 pound battery as "dead weight" and rarely use it?
The way I see it, the battery pack is like having 2 extra cylinders, when you need six to accelerate hard. But also, for better fuel economy, it is like running on ONLY 2 cylinders, when you just want to putt-putt around town.
