Mercury has a promotion running where they will give you a Microsoft Zune for free when you preorder a 2008 Mercury Mariner before Feb. 28.

I was planning on preordering one before then anyhow. Still trying to decide on a color though.

I played around with the "Price your Mariner", and it lets you select options with duplicate features. For example, the leather package is included with the premium package, and it lets you select them both (and have both in the price). Not well done.

Is it just me, or is there something wrong with purchasing a 2008 model while in 2006? I know model years have a bit of play, but this is getting out of hand!

I too played with the site and made the same observations. I think the only thing they were trying to get across since there is obviously no logic check behind the option choices was to give a basic understanding of the pricing scheme in relation to the current model. I believe that the line has been shut down for the current model year (2007) so you cannot order any more new vehicles other than what is in the pipeline.

With regards to discussing 2008 models in 2006 I think this is just Ford finally reacting to the criticisms that they hold their product lines too long before they make any major modifications. I guess they could have gone with a half-year model but may have feared more backlash from 2007a versus 2007b owners...who knows?

 

I don't know if you all caught Ford's announcement of their new "Sync" which allows connection of cell phones and music players into the vehicles's sound system.

Ford lists the 2008 model year vehicles which will have this new feature, and I am quite surprised to not see either the 2008 Escape or the 2008 Mariner listed.

 

I guess that is because the 2008 was released in 2006.

 

Ford now as a PDF of the 2008 Escape features and options on their web site.

 

Looks like the 2008 Escape Hybrid does not come in a 4WD model. Not good.

I found it somewhat humorous, that the hybrid's "Chrome Appearance Package" should include the body-colored door handles and sideview mirrors.
