Could you also, please, confirm that the P/N is for just one crossbar (and not a pair)?

They gave me two boxes. Each box has a Ford label that says "ONE 5E6Z-7855106-AAA SUPPORT". Each box also has a shipping label and the two boxes were shipped separately to my dealer from two different Ford locations. That strongly implies that the part number is for one crossbar.

However, I would not be surprised if something weird was going on. As someone else noted, fordparts.com sells 5E6Z-7855106-AAA for $82.86. That would be $165.72 plus shipping for two crossbars, which sounds like a ridiculous amount of money. I'm not sure if that is right.

(I negotiated to include the crossbars as part of our vehicle purchase, so I don't have an itemized invoice or receipt that lists the price.)

I agree that's a ridiculous amount of money, and why I asked.

BTW, fordparts.com is the lowest price found per P/N.

Is anyone familiar with the 7L8Z-7855100-AA cross bar kit? I've been told this kit contains two cross bars and is said to actually be considerably less expensive than buying two of the 5E6Z bars.

Call a dealer and ask. Its likely for a different model year. I think there are at least three different roof rack systems on the Escapes. One is the new one on the 2007. One is the track based one from 2006 and earlier, and it looks like for the non-hybrid there was a "no boundaries" roof rack as well. You might find that these different part numbers are for different racks and are not interchangable. Thats what I would expect to be the case.

Being a 7L8Z number, this would be for a 2007 model year vehicle.

I think it is better to think of it has "first used in" 2007.

For the Escape, that would be true (but not for the Mariner).

I just verified, with fordpartsdirect.com, affiliated with Lombard Ford, somewhere in Connecticut, that the 7L8Z is a kit containing two 5E6Z. The kit, with two, is about the same price as the single item.

I just checked the ford-parts-direct.com (note hyphens), and while they confirm it is for a set of two, it also mentions they are for the 2008 model.
