Default 14.5 gallon fill today

I needed gas today. I was down to 16 miles to empty (mte)

At the station, the fuel pump "backpressure cut-off" occurred at 12.5 gallons on the "nose". I then proceeded to fill until I hit 14.57 gallons!

The first 1.25 gallons of "extra" fill was not too hard. The last .25 gallons was a major pain in that it too long for a usual "gas and go" routine. The secret to getting more fuel in your tank is to "get more air" out of it by laterally bumping your vehicle. No, you do not need major "bumps". Just small and continuous bumps/shakes will do. Note, you might "inhale" some fumes doing this if you pull the pump out to check on how the gasoline is dropping down into your tank. This inhaling stuff is never good for your health.

OOPS!, I forgot to mention one of our members claims to have put 17 gallons in his tank at one fill.

The thing is, most people here don't know that the '05 FEH has 1.3 gallons in the tank at 0 MTE. You had 16 MTE plus 1.3 gallons and you added above the 15 gallons the tank is suppose to hold. This would be 14.5 gallons you added to a tank that had 1.3 gallons at 0 MTE plus the amount of gas it takes you to go 16 miles. This also means you had filled your tank to 15.8 gallons and still had what ever mileage your getting in 16 miles to determine how much over 16 gallons you filled your 15 gallon tank.

Things have changed in the '09 FEH where we can add 14.2 gallons at 0 MTE with no problem to have a total of 15 gallons at fill-up. Yet to be determined is how much over 15 gallons can be added. So far, it's not near what I can put in my '05 FEH with the side bump.

This all means the MTE in the '09 FEH/MMH will always be higher at fill-up than a person driving the '05 FEH. After all, the '05 FEH is calculating MTE with 13.7 gallons and the '09 FEH is calculating MTE at 14.2 MTE.

Today when I ran out of gas and I added 15.2 gallons with all the side bumps possible. My MTE was 698 at fill-up. See my bad photo here:

I managed 686.4 miles on my 4th tank, but I ran out of gas which should prevent others in the future if their following my post.

Bill,

So, you could have driven over one-thousand miles on one tank of gas?

You got 66.5-MPG (969.7-miles divided by 14.574-gallons)?

$2.889/gallon? That's great. I assume near Carlisle/Camp Hill/Mechanicsburg. Here in Hanover, PA, it is $3.259.

The gasoline was $2.88 due to a discount from the local food store I shop in. I'm located in Western Pa where gasoline is 87 octane at most stations and is currently selling around $3.29. NO, I do not obtain skyhigh mileage in the 60's.
