08 MMH Towing?

Re: 08 MMH Towing?
Yes, towing bars are available, specifically for the FEH/MMH Hybrids. Do a search here for "towing" or "trailer" to find the previous threads on this subject. Be aware that you may also need an aftermarket black box directly connected to the battery to fool the MMH's computer about the extra power draw. That is covered in the previous threads.

Re: 08 MMH Towing?
We are limited to 1000 lbs as stated in the owners manual. Why? We have a heavy duty suspension than in the V6 model allows 3500lb tow weight. However, reverse is not powered by the ICE.
There have been threads in which hybrid owners posted the ability to tow greater than 1000lbs including one owner who towed a Shasta Travel Trailer from Kansas City to Washington DC including over the serious hills of West Virginia! One poster summed it up as saying "just because you can do it, doesn't mean you should do it".
Most of the hitches utilized are of the 2 inch design because there are more accessories that can fit into this size opposed to the smaller 1 1/4 inch size.

The first 2 posts in this thread help cover the wiring kits to order for the MMH.
On my MMH I did not get the 18193 module mentioned as I currently plan on using the hitch more for a bike carrier then towing our trailer.
I don't get any fault indicators but the blinkers are faster. Also make sure you do hook up the ground wire in the wiring kit or you will not have any trailer lights when you have your headlights on!
Also on the MMH when you are removing the rear lights to get at the wiring, after you remove the screws you need to pull then straight backward as they are still help in by 2 long plastic pins that fit into snaps in the body.
If I start using the trailer more I most likely will get the 18193 module this spring / summer.
Also as in the other posts you will find when you do some searching, make sure the hitch you purchase does specify that it will work with the Hybrid as there is a cut out where the A/C lines to the battery back run.
