08 Ford escape hybrid
😂😂 so I somehow formed an addiction to these cars but have learned a lot. Recently purchased a 08 Ford escape hybrid audiophile edition with a sunroof ( tons of water leakes ) but otherwise in great shape.
Now the issue that I keep running into is a intermittent wrench light. It seems that the codes are pointing at the HV battery fans and luckily I had two on hand that where I. Working order so I swapped them out. Now the issue lies with these codes still popping up.
P0A81-20 hybrid battery cooling
P0a96-20 hybrid battery cooling
P0A1f-60 Battery energy control module
So two of those are related to the fans if I am not mistaken and the other one apparently is the BCM error. With Forscan I am able to erase and the vehicle continues working as normal but the issue pops up again with 20min of driving and causes weak performance while accelerating and inability to go into hybrid mode. The cars A/C doesn't work and I tried adding Freon to the system with no success. Could the lack of A/C be causing these issues or is it a problem with the HV BCM? Could I swap in a 05 HVBCM or a 09 HVBCM into it to resolve the issue? Do I have to replace the A/C system? Or am I over my head and chasing the wrong resolutions. I also changed the modoor actuator and that resolved the B1239 code I was having issues primarily.

You absolutely must have a fully functional AC system. You clear codes and can drive, but after the HVTB heats up and isn't being properly cooled, the codes are thrown again and the computer prevents you from going into EV mode or even using electric assist in order to protect the HVTB. That's your loss of power, no EV help, you are running only on the ICE.. Fix the AC system before you replace more parts.
Yes, I figured it was going to be an issue with he A/C but wanted to confirm that I was on the right path. When I checked it with a AutoZone refrigerant the pressure meter displayed not having any refrigerant inside the system it was reading as 0PSi added some 31 PSI ( Google says it can handle 35 PSI ) and still had no Cooling inside the cabin.
Double checked by bleeding the pressure a bit to make sure I didn't have a leak anywhere and a bit came out so it's holding pressure. But I assume it's a broken down part somewhere in the system.
i will check back when I pinpoint the source of the problem.

So some good news and some bad I managed to fill up the a/c with refrigerant and seems to have removed the cooling codes. Figured I was good to go so drove it a bit around the street and got another wrench code but this time it only read
P0A1F-60 battery energy control module
Car still studying but isn't hard jerking like it was doing before.
Does this mean that the HV battery BCM was damaged or is on its way out? I have a 09 BCM arriving soon but is it the BCM or is the battery pack in need of replacing?

According to Ford, P0A1F on its own is almost always resolved by replacement of the safety plug or HV battery. I tried to resolve one encountered by replacing the TCBM with two other units, and it didn't resolve it.
Here's a snipped from the repair manual:
Pinpoint Test J: DTC P0A1F — Battery Energy Control Module Has Internal Errors
Normal Operation
With the ignition switch in the ON position and the engine ON or OFF (the engine must have run at least once after the ignition
switch was cycled to ON), the traction battery control module (TBCM) monitors the current, voltage, temperature, and leakage
resistance of the 25 individual nickel metal hydride battery modules within the high voltage traction battery (HVTB). The TBCM also
controls the contactors. DTC P0A1F is flagged if there are any internal errors of the HVTB caused by sensor failure, control module
failure, or other severe related faults internal to the HVTB.
Possible Causes

Bah bummer so I tried replacing the safety switch and no go, I have two spare HV batteries lying about but one is from a 09 Ford escape and the other belongs to an 05 I know there was a thread around here that explained the compatibility between years but want to resolve this issue so I can move on to the next problem being the sound system 😁.
I do appreciate the information thus far thank you.

Generally speaking, 05-09 work in 05-09 as a full pack. Internally, they are not interchangeable as the BCMs changed. IIRC, conceptually, 08 and 09 packs are nearly identical save the missing jump starter.
Okay so I replaced the BCM with a 09 BCM from eBay the BCM code went away but was replaced with the P0AA7. I was reading a post regarding this code and they mentioned unplugging the charger would resolve this. I will update when I have done so. If all else fails I will be replacing the HVTB
pray for me jajaja.

Well that was a bust, removed the charger and nothing swapped the old BCM and nothing still throws the wrench code. I have a known good 05 HVTB so I'ma end up swapping it in. Wanted to avoid the hassle but oh well.
Will update when finished.
