I just bought a 2007 Ford Escape Hybrid... it has 11000 miles. Driving it home from work tonight in LA, while stopped at a street light it just stopped running... it took me three times to get it started and move again. Seems like the battery is low or dead. Also, often times while sitting at a stop light the engine seems to rev up and then it runs a bit ruff.
Any ideas?

 

I'll guess you did not buy it from a Ford dealer?

Take it to one and tell them what happened.

Let us know what they did.

 

This is a really stupid question but when it quits, have you tried driving it? Could it be it has just gone into electric only mode?

Don't take offense but you wouldn't be the first one on here to NOT know that the gas engine shuts off on these cars and you can drive away like that.

To test this, next time it quits, flip your heater control to defrost or max a/c and see if it restarts.

Good point, Jason. Whenever I use valet parking, I make a special point to tell the valet driver that the FEH is a hybrid and runs on electric power.
