Default 05 FEH Thud when coming to a stop

2005 FEH

When I come to a stop I get what feels like a "thud" - it only happens between 20 to 10 mph while applying the brakes and the ABS/Traction Control light flashes two times and the rpm drops from 1000 to 800 and then right back up to 1000. (All of this happens within 1-2 seconds) This is an intermittent problem. The dealer says they are not able to catch it happening so they are not sure what's wrong. They say they checked the abs "tone/exciter" rings and they are ok (I'm not so sure)....

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for all the help!

Update: Dealer is not able to diagnose the problem. I have it on video now.

Have called Ford CEO office and customer relations - both of which are no help and say to take it to another dealer. The other dealer's hybrid mechanic is out on vacation.

I will NEVER buy a Ford again.

Update: Have taken vehicle to another dealer. As I had suspected original dealer did NOT in fact check the abs/tone rings as one of them IS in fact cracked.

This nightmare may finally be over!

Glad you found it. I tend to check for myself - don't trust mechanics, especially at dealers.

I had a feeling that's what it was. I specifically told the certified hybrid mechanic at the dealer to check all rings. He said he did and they all looked good....I am not a mechanic so I took his word for it...$2,800 (various repairs and maintenance) + 3 weeks later = bad experience at this dealership!!!

The General Manager hasn't been at the dealership in 3-4 days, voicemail so far unanswered...
