ID.2all

Volkswagen is ready to hit the entry-level EV market with the ID.2all, and Porsche’s Cayenne will be fully electric soon.

Volkswagen’s naming nomenclature is a bit unusual these days. But either way, the ID.2all is one of their next EV cars to be unveiled over the coming decade. It is intended to be small and minimalist, so think about the size of a VW Golf. And there are a lot of rumors around that the basis of this model might foreshadow the next generation Golf.

Volkswagen’s electric car platform is called MEB, and stands for Modular Electric Drive Matrix. We don’t know where they got the “B.” That platform came into existence in 2018 and is now seeing its first refresh. With new tech, the range of this smaller car now stands a better shot at matching bigger cars. Estimated range? 280 miles. Charge time? 20 minutes will bring you from 10% to 80%. or in essence, add about 200 miles.

According to GreenCarReports, this would be front-wheel-drive based. Other cars on the platform are rear or all-wheel-drive, and honestly, with a name like ID.2all, we would have expected power going to all four wheels. Nonetheless, this VW is intended at first for the European market. We might see it stateside, or we might see a smaller, lower-cost version as well. Volkswagen does have EV plants in the US, so it wouldn’t have to worry about tax credit disadvantages.

Porsche will have an electric Cayenne SUV sometime soon

Porsche’s Taycan has established itself as proof that an EV can have some Porsche DNA evident in the driving experience. Maybe not all, but enough. Enough to have the Taycan be a resounding success, and prepare Porsche to move electric power into other models like the Cayenne. Car and Driver indicated that at a recent press conference, Porsche has announced a Cayenne EV, but no other information about the car beyond it existing soon.

In that same press release, Porsche also announced a flagship SUV that will be a premier model. Again, very few details have emerged, but it will be above the Macan and Cayenne.
