New 7 minute 33.35 Lap Matches Some Epic Rivals Around the Nürburgring

Porsche’s Taycan Turbo S has smashed the Nürburgring Nordschleife standard electric car lap record. Porsche development driver Lars Kern has lapped the Green Hell in 7 minutes 33.35 seconds to improve on his own mark driving a prototype Taycan in 2019, by nine seconds.

Record Taycan Packed a Tequipment Performance Kit

The Tequipment Performance Kit equipped 2023 Taycan Turbo S also had Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control and ran on Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres on 21-inch RS Spyder wheels for the attempt. Packing a 625 HP system output, Launch Control enables the Taycan’s electric motors to briefly deliver 760 HP when accelerating from a standstill.

While the Taycan is still some way off Tesla’s 7m 05s modified Model S Plaid Nürburgring lap record, that car carried significant upgrades to achieve its lap. A Standard Tesla Model S however lapped the ‘Ring in 7 minutes 35,579 seconds, making the 2023 Taycan Turbo S the quickest ever standard electric car to lap the epic racetrack.

The Manthey Performance Porsche 991.2 911 GT2 RS holds the all time Nordscheife lap record at 6m38.835s, set last year to beat the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series’ 2020 6m43.616s tour. It deposed the 2018 Lamborghini Aventador SVJ LP770-4’s 6m44.972s record. Taycan has some way to go to match the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé GT 63 S 4MATIC+’s 7m23.009s 2021 4-door record, which beat the Jaguar XE SV Project 8’s 2018 7m23.164s lap.

Taycan in Good on the Nürburgring

A little further down the Nürburgring lap record list, the cars closest to the Taycan in the 7 minute 33 bracket include the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio’s 2016 lap, the Pagani Zonda in ’06, Porsche’s 911 GT3 RS in 2010 and the Porsche 911 GT2 in 2007. Then comes the Taycan. Next best is the 2008 Koenigsegg CCX, 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera S, the 2021 SUV record holding Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, the 2005 Koenigsegg and the 2011 Nissan GT-R.
