The Most Important EV Debuts At Monterey Car Week
Some impressive machinery debuted at Monterey Car Week, from Kia to Rimac. We’ve put together the most notables here.
Monterey Car Week had a bevy of debuts from manufacturers. And while some of them were higher end exotics, a number of them were EVs. After all, in the pos-covid era, auto show debuts have been on a steep decline. So why not showcase something outdoors in beautiful California? We’ve decided to pick out a few of the most important car’s to be unveiled. With no particular order in mind, let’s take a look.
Kia EV6 GT
Kia has arrived at Monterey Car Week with the goal too impress. And they sure have with the EV6 GT. Here’s the astonishing stats. Five hundred and seventy six horsepower. We had to type it out in order to ensure you weren’t reading a typo. Sprint to 60 miles per hour? 3.4 seconds. And “drift mode.” Kia, we can’t wait for this one.
Lucid Air Sapphire
The Lucid Air has been around for a little bit, but showgoers saw a chance to see the Sapphire edition for the very first time. An even more performance focused EV, this one can accelerate to 100 miles per hour in under 4 seconds. The price is as impressive too. $249,000 according to Newsweek.
Rimac Nivera
Although the name has been around a while, the first production Nivera was shown at the Quail part of Monterey Car Week. The Croatian car with nearly 2000 horsepower is gone before you know it. Quite literally all 5 examples are sold.
Audi S-1 eTron Quattro
Less of a production car and more of a showcase of design, the S-1 eTron Quattro is an homage to the original dominant rally car. Also known as the Hoonitron, and to be driven by Hoon master Ken Block, the S1 eTron is surely going to pack a serious punch. CarScoops believes it will have about 671 horsepower, assuming it shares the Formula E power unit shared by the Dakar Rally RS Q eTron.
Acura Precision EV
Acura’s Precision EV debuted as well, and although this isn’t headed for production, Acura notes thta many of the styling elements will be seen on future products. Some wild styling cues, like the double grip yoke style steering wheel may or may not find their way into Acura showrooms, but an all electric SUV will. By 2024 at least.
Lincoln L100
Lincoln celebrated the brand’s 100th birthday by debuting the stunning L100 concept car. You have to dig deep to find any information that this car is in fact an EV, but alas, it is. No specs are given though because this is a concept in its purest form. But expect a Lincoln flagship to have the angled Kamm-back tail, and swoopy long roofline.
Polestar 6
An honorable mention is the Polestar 6, formerly called the O2. Debuting at The Quail, a Motorsport Gathering, the 6 was announced officially as a production car. With over 800 horsepower on tap, a retractable hard top, this EV stands out from the rest as a driver’s EV.
