Mach-E

OH YEAH!… OK that probably wasn’t being said when this Mustang Mach-E drove through a house wall, but the likeness is too close to pass up.

Life sometimes imitates art. Art sometimes looks like the Kool-Aid guy busting through a brick wall. And this Mach-E is doing a fine job of impersonating that famous refreshing mascot.

But for the owner of this EV, the situation is less than refreshing. We saw this story on CarScoops, who themselves weren’t able to find a back-story on how this EV pierced the side of a house. But it’s kinda safe to surmise it was just one of those incidents where gas and brake pedal were confused, and the horses were unleashed.

While the damage looks bad, it could also be a lot worse. It looks like the car suffered just some cosmetic bruises to the front and sides. But a close peek of the car shows the car came awfully close to knocking out a gas line. And it’s also interesting to see that the car made a beeline for the neighbors lawn and fully escaped the confines of the intended garage. Only a few beams are visible, too, which means the house probably didn’t get too much structural damage. Though we are sure smashing through a garage wall makes one heck of a noise. The owner was likely able to clear off the debris, and drive it – probably slowly – to a parking spot on the driveway.

Interestingly, the Mach-E and other EV’s have a host of safety equipment built in. But it’s very evident that a driver can test – and exceed – the limits of crash prevention technology. Most cars now have forward facing cameras and radar that would certainly detect a wall, and prevent any throttle from being applied. But that poses another question. Did this Mustang get a running start at the wall, or simply muscle its way through? It certainly could muscle through with 428 lb/ft of torque and AWD. All things considered, this homeowner got extremely lucky that more damage wasn’t done during the Mustang’s stampede. Could it have ended worse? Oh, yeah.
