Lingenfelter Unveils eLcamino EV Concept at 2021 PRI Show

Lingenfelter unveiled an eCrate-powered eLcamino EV restomod at the recently culminated 2021 PRI show. The tuner also carried out the installation as part of Chevy Performace’s pilot program.

A muscle car at the front and a pickup truck at the rear, the El Camino is not only a legendary Chevrolet nameplate but also a true automotive icon. Now, the famous Corvette tuner Lingenfelter is helping this classic car transition into the all-electric future. Lingenfelter recently revealed a battery-only El Camino. Lingenfelter eLcamino is the moniker of this retro-futuristic creation. The EV Restomod is the result of a collaboration between LPE and Chevy Performance.

The EV is also the first aftermarket GM Concept Electric Connect and Cruise eCrate concept car. Lingenfelter successfully carried out the installation as part of Chevy Performace’s pilot program. In addition to establishing a certification program for independent installers, the concept also helped validate the system for retro installations. The concept was unveiled at the 2021 PRI show, which was held at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis. The car hit the display at the EV Performance zone between December 9 and 11.

Lingenfelter Performance Engineering completed the build earlier in the summer. Since then, the electric concept car has been put through several road tests, during which it covered hundreds of miles. The EV started life as a third-generation El Camino SS. According to Lingenfelter, this aftermarket conversion will lead the charge for other Electric Specialty Vehicle Modifiers (ECSVs).

The eCrate drivetrain of Lingenfelter eLcamino produces 200 HP of power and 266 lb-ft of peak torque.

COO/VP of Operations at Lingenfelter, Mark Rapson shared his thoughts on the eLcamino EV restomod. “This OEM and aftermarket collaboration opens exciting new opportunities for the aftermarket performance community and will draw a new demographic of enthusiasts,” said Rapson.

He further added, “The project not only validated the concept but demonstrated the excitement EV performance offers. The performance and fun factor of driving the car has impressed everyone who has had the opportunity behind the wheel.”

A 66 kWh battery pack sits in the flatbed of Lingenfelter eLcamino EV. The thermal management system components and supporting electronics sit under the hood of the electric concept. Furthermore, the battery pack sends power to a drive motor that propels the rear axle. A four-speed automatic transmission is also part of the ensemble and allows the driver to shift gears, just like an internal combustion drivetrain.
