Dearborn, Michigan is buzzing with news from Ford. With the automotive market shifting heavily to EV cars, ford has announced they are revamping their battery programs to a big effect. Over 50 billion dollars is being invested to scale production to 600,000 vehicles annual by 2023, and 2M annual by 2026.

Jim Farley, Ford’s President and CEO stated, “Ford’s new electric vehicle lineup has generated huge enthusiasm and demand, and now we are putting the industrial system in place to scale quickly.”

To reach the 600,000 EV mark, Ford laid out the following plan: 270,000 Mustang Mach-Es for North America, Europe and China. 150,000 F-150 Lightnings for North America. 150,000 Transit EVs for North America and Europe. 30,000 units of an all-new SUV for Europe.

Ford has reportedly secured the annual battery capacity needed to back up those production numbers.

Citroen Ami city car is a little urban runabout

Smaller cities in the UK will get this cute little runabout, the Citroen Ami, later this fall. While it may be tiny, and have a short range and even smaller top speed, it’s a perfect car for the big city.

A 46 mile range and 28 mile per hour top speed means it has a very niche market. But that market may soak it up. Citroen has won an award for this car, voted “best for eco city travel” by Marie Claire.

Alpine A110 EV brings French Style to EV sports cars.

Alpine‘s EV news is a bit more swift compare to Citroen’s, as the other French brand has announced the A110 E-ternité. This EV version of the A110 is the culmination of a vision to turn the sports car brand into an EV car maker.

Power is comparable to it’s internal combustion engine counterpart in the A110 E-ternité. And 0-60 times are slower by only 0.3 seconds. Not bad considering the slight 250kg weight penalty of the battery powered car.

But it’s far more friendly to the air around it, and the air in it, with an open top version available in this car for the first time. Just too bad it’s not coming stateside!
