2023 Cadillac Lyriq

And they said it wouldn’t last…the 2023 Cadillac Lyric sells out in minutes; while Honda and Toyota introduce new moves in electrification.

Cadillac had one wild week. Reservations for the upcoming 2023 Cadillac Lyriq were the hottest ticket in town. Other news for Everything Electric includes Honda’s planned path towards e-mobility; as well as Toyota’s hybrid-only Sienna rolling out a special edition.

Brand New Cadillac

But the MVP of the moment is Cadillac. The automaker started accepting orders of the all-electric 2023 Cadillac Lyric on September 18. And from the start, the orders came pouring in. As a result, the Cadillac Lyriq sold out in record time–in just over ten minutes. A feat that is rare and impressive for any vehicle, but the fact that this is electric is exciting news.

2023 Cadillac Lyriq

“Reservations for the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq debut sold out in just over ten minutes and we continue to see a lot of enthusiasm around the brand – both current product and in our all-electric future,” said Rory Harvey, vice president, Global Cadillac. “The initial response for Lyriq has been extraordinary… [it] represents just the beginning of Cadillac’s journey to become an industry-leading, all-electric luxury brand.” He also added that the company looks forward to revealing more of the future EV lineup next year.

Cadillac also let customers know that more vehicles will be available to order through Cadillac dealers network starting summer 2022.

Honda’s Path Forward

As one of the first major EV announcements since they partnered with GM, Honda announced a sales target of 70,000 units for the upcoming Prologue SUV–the brand’s first BEV. Following the launch of Prologue in 2024, Honda will introduce additional vehicles based on its new e-Architecture in development. They are hoping for sales of 500,000 BEVs by 2030. With the goal of 100 percent zero emission vehicles sales in North America by 2040.

Honda EV

“Launching our first volume BEV in 2024 is the start of an exciting new direction for Honda,” said Dave Gardner, executive vice president of National Operations at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. “We are working with our dealers to plan the transition from sales of primarily gasoline-powered vehicles to selling 100-percent electric vehicles by 2040.”

Honda’s initial approach to selling the EV SUV Prologue will be regional, focusing on California and BEV-friendly sunbelt states of Texas and Florida. Honda anticipates these regions will represent the bulk of sales at the onset of launch due to higher customer acceptance and regulatory requirements.

Following the 2024 introduction of Honda Prologue, co-developed with GM and based on the Ultium platform, Honda will introduce a series of electrified vehicles in the second half of the decade based on the Honda developed e-Architecture and production of BEVs beginning at Honda plants in North America.

Toyota Sienna Gets Outdoorsy

fourth-generation, hybrid-only Sienna in 2021, one of the most fuel-efficient 7-8 passenger minivans on the market, Toyota is upping the van’s outdoors activity capability. For 2022, the new Sienna Woodland Special Edition combines adventure-inspired rugged styling, a standard Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive System and increased ground clearance for taking the fun further afield. In addition to the new Woodland Edition, the 2022 Sienna line adds a few updates for its sophomore year: the XLE grade now gets the optional 18-inch wheel design; second-row ottomans are available for the Limited and Platinum grades with all-wheel drive; Windchill Pearl replaces Blizzard Pearl as the premium color offering; and the Woodland Edition is available in the Cement exterior color, exclusive to the Woodland Edition, as well as Midnight Black Metallic. Toyota reimagined the fourth-generation Sienna, assembled in the U.S. to support a wider array of life stages and activities than the typical minivan. That included answering the call for more luxury, multimedia and outdoors-amenable features. The latter includes a line of Yakima® accessories, such as a rooftop carrier, cross bars, bike rack and more. The outdoors strategy theme escalates with the 2022 Woodland Edition.
