Eluminator Electric Crate Motor Charges into SEMA 2021

We get our first look at the Ford Eluminator electric crate engine. It is the first of its kind to be engineered, developed, and offered by an OEM.

It is no secret that Ford is focusing more and more on an EV future. But it goes beyond simply offering future EV models. Ford wants to future proof everything and be sure any vehicle can run on electric power. That is the point on the Eluminator electric crate motor. We reported a couple months ago that it was coming. It has broken cover at SEMA this week, and we were there to see it. We now get our first look at what this little powerhouse looks like in the metal.

The Eluminator is similar to the e-motors applied on the 2021 Mustang Mach-E GT. It will now be made available from Ford Performance Parts. Look for part number M-9000-MACHE. It is small but mighty. It tips the scales at only 205 pounds.

However, the electric unit delivers 281 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. It spins to a dizzying maximum speed of 13,800 rpm.

The crate engine will set you back $3,900. Not a bad price when you consider a Coyote crate engine will set you back about ten grand. The Eluminator crate engine comes with the HV motor to traction inverter harness. The LV harness/connector and vent tube assembly are also included. However, the battery, traction inverter and control system are not part of the package.

This Eluminator crate engine opens up a whole new world of possibilities in the world of Ford Performance. As the world moves further away from internal combustion engines it is unclear how much longer the traditional V8 crate motor will be an option.

However, this electric crate engine allows us to breathe a sigh of relief that we will always have an option of adding power. And the Eluminator is the first of its kind but certainly will not be the last.

SEMA 2021

Do you have a Mustang restomod project on your mind? This Eluminator might be just the ticket for some low-cost, clean, reliable power. It could work in so many applications that it would take the rest of the internet to list them all. The point is we all have an option now. And we expect many more options in the future. We also expect that the performance figures will only increase in the future as well.

This unit makes good power, but it probably won’t be long before others put out more power than even the most powerful V8 engines. Ford may have summed it up best when they said: “So, when it comes to heart-pounding, visceral-enhancing electric-driven high-performance technologies and relating post-purchase applications, know this: We share your enthusiasm–and there’s plenty more to come.”
