Chevy Silverado Goes Electric to Battle Competing EV Pickups

Dubbed the Silverado-E, Chevrolet’s first-ever EV truck to be built at Factory ZERO EV plant alongside Hummer EV models.
The electric truck market is heating up like never before. Aside from newcomers like Rivian and Bollinger, old-school automakers are jumping into the fray. Ford, which is one of Rivian’s investors, is closing in on its first EV pickup with the F-150. Meanwhile, GMC dropped two bombshells with the Hummer name during the World Series and the Final Four.
Now, it’s Chevrolet’s turn. Coming to a showroom near you in the electric future, the Silverado-E.
Ground ZERO of the Revolution

Per Chevy’s announcement, the Silverado-E will be built at GM’s new Factory ZERO, where the Hummer EV and Hummer EV SUV will also be built. Details remain scant at this time, though the electric Silverado will be a ground-up build based upon the Ultium EV platform. Chevy adds the EV truck will have a range of around 400 miles per charge. Meanwhile, the company expects high demand from customer and fleet sales alike, with tons of options available in the order book.
Waiting for the Silverado-E is the Hardest Part

According to Car and Driver, the expected showroom debut for the Silverado-E would either be 2023 or 2024, around the same time as the rollout of the Hummer EV SUV. The magazine believes it’ll also be sold alongside the gas-powered trucks, and come with a range of powertrains. In the meantime, Chevy plans to update the current Silverado in 2022; thus why no photos of the Silverado-E beyond a teaser of its name at the moment.
Electrify an Icon, Change the World

“The vehicles coming from Factory ZERO will change the world, and how the world views electric vehicles,” GM President Mark Reuss said, according to the Detroit Free Press. “The GMC Hummer EV SUV joins its stablemate in the realm of true supertrucks, and Chevrolet will take everything Chevy’s loyal truck buyers love about Silverado — and more — and put it into an electric pickup that will delight retail and commercial customers alike.”
The Silverado-E’s arrival is part of GM’s overall roadmap to have 30 new EVs by the mid-2020s. In turn, the General plans to become completely electric by 2035. We certainly can’t wait to see more of the electric Silverado in the months to come.
