Cadillac Lyriq Deliveries Might Start 9 Months Ahead of Schedule

It looks like GM wants Cadillac’s first-ever battery-only offering to hit the market as early as possible. The company’s President recently announced that deliveries of Cadillac Lyriq would start ahead of schedule.

Only three months after opening the order banks for its first-ever EV, the pre-production models of Cadillac Lyriq are already rolling off the line. The production of Cadillac’s electric SUV is currently underway at the company’s Springhill facility. President of General Motors, Mark Reuss recently took to social media and made the announcement.

“15 months ago we announced a $2 billion investment into Spring Hill to build fully electric vehicles. Our teams have worked tirelessly on the LYRIQ, bringing the launch up nine months ahead of schedule and working in parallel to convert the plant and start production,” said Reuss.

This marks a very important milestone for General Motors’ luxury sub-brand. In addition to competing in the US, Cadillac also has plans to sell Lyriq in China, which happens to be the world’s largest EV market. SAIC-GM joint venture will oversee the production of Cadillac’s first electric offering in China. Cadillac Lyriq’s debut edition will be the first variant to hit the road.

The Lyriq Debut Edition sold out in just 20 minutes when the electric SUV first went on sale back in September 2021.

Like the Hummer EV and GM’s other electric offerings, the automakers’ Ultium platform will also underpin the Lyriq SUV. A 100.4 kWh Ultium battery pack will power the Cadillac Lyriq SUV and offer over 300 miles of driving range.
The Ultium platform offers nearly 50/50 weight distribution, which delivers impressive ride and handling dynamics.

The Debut Edition will be available in a single motor rear-wheel-drive setup. The battery-only drivetrain of this variant will churn out 340 HP of power and 325 lb-ft of peak torque. The electric SUV also gets 190 kW DC fast charging capability. Furthermore, the upcoming Cadillac Lyriq will also get 19.2 kW Level 2 AC charging.

According to the company, the prices of the all-new lyric will start from $58,795. We also expect the deliveries of Lyriq Debut Edition to start sometime in the second quarter of 2022. With the Lyriq, Cadillac will be reborn as a premium electric brand.

“This is an important proof point in our path to EV leadership as we introduce more high-volume EVs across price points and lifestyles. I’m thankful to the Spring Hill and Cadillac teams for all their hard work,” said Reuss.
