Retro Flair

In recent months, a slew of electric vehicle upstarts are beginning to surface, touting forthcoming products that promise to change the way we drive forever. But most of the vehicles we see are futuristic and forward-thinking in terms of design, which some like but others find a bit offputting. However, the Wolf from Alpha Motor Corporation is more of a throwback to small pickups from the 1980s and up, oozing with the kind of retro flair that might just convert even the staunchest EV opponent.

Traditional Approach

The Wolf is just one of the Irvine, California-based Alpha's numerous planned offerings which include the Jax, Ace Coupe, Ace Performance Coupe, and Icon. It's also a very traditional-looking EV pickup, essentially the polar opposite of the Blade Runner-esque Tesla Cybertruck. In fact, if we didn't know any better, we'd think it was a vintage ICE-powered pickup fitted with some aftermarket goodies.

Refreshing Design

The Wolf's many cool add-ons (which aren't really add-ons, since they come fitted to the pickup) including tubular bumpers, a front brush guard, loads of off-road lighting, fender flares, and giant off-road tires. But at the same time, it's also a fresh design that doesn't quite look like anything else on the road, and we find that to be quite refreshing.

Sized Right

In terms of size, the Wolf measures up favorably to old-school compact pickups like the first-gen Ford Ranger and Chevy S-10 - 188 inches long, 76 inches wide, and 66 inches high. Wheels are available in sizes ranging from 16-18 inches, and the Wolf comes with a legitimately sized 65-inch bed, something that's nice to see in a world with ever-shrinking pickup cargo areas.

Simple yet Attractive

The interior of the Wolf is simple yet attractive, with seating for two and both a central infotainment screen and a driver's display. The premium-looking seats bear a diamond-stitched pattern, and the Wolf will come with a premium sound system, trim, and seating material, according to Alpha.

Talking Numbers

The Wolf will come equipped with either a 75- or 85-kWh lithium-ion battery and either single-motor front-wheel-drive or dual-motor rear-wheel-drive configurations. The range is estimated at between 250-275 miles, with a 0-60 time of 6.2 seconds and up to 3,000 pounds of towing capacity.

Coming Soon?

Pricing for the Wolf ranges from $36,000 to $46,000 without any federal tax credits factored in. Reservations are being taken now, though there's no word on when the pickup might actually enter production. But for those intrigued by the idea of a retro-looking modern EV pickup, it might just be worth saving a spot in line for.
