Missing Out?

In the U.S., those looking to buy an EV have a rather limited number of choices at the moment, mostly consisting of Tesla, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Volkswagen ID.4, or Chevrolet Bolt EV or EUV. Meanwhile, in China, EV shoppers have an incredibly cool lineup available to them from a company called NIO, which is developing and producing some of the coolest electric vehicles on the planet. Here's what we're missing out on.

EVE Concept

The NIO Eve Concept was introduced way back in 2017, but it is reportedly destined for production. The Eve was designed to be an autonomous vehicle that acts as more of a mobile living space than a traditional car, with interior glass that doubles as a smart display. The car can be driven manually if so desired, and NIO says that it's capable of traveling up to 600 miles on a charge.

ET7

Next up, we have the ET7, which is due to arrive for the 2022 model year. A four-door sedan in the vein of the Tesla Model S, the ET7 will also reportedly travel up to 600 miles on a charge, thanks to its large 150 kWh battery pack. The ET7 also offers fully autonomous driving thanks to a whopping 33 sensors placed around the vehicle.

EC6

The EC6 launched back in the fall of 2020 and is NIO's first "coupe" crossover, drawing inspiration from the ES6. The EC6 features two electric motors - one on each axle - to provide all-wheel-drive and a 0-62 mph time of 4.7 seconds. Drawing power from a 110 kWh battery pack, the EC6 is capable of traveling up to 370 miles on a single charge.

ES8

Those seeking more passenger and cargo space will find it in the ES8 crossover, which has seating for seven. Launched back in 2018, the ES8 is made almost entirely of aluminum to save weight and comes equipped with a 70 kWh battery pack that gives it 220 miles of range, which isn't bad considering how big it is.

ES6

The ES6, which launched back in 2019, is a smaller crossover available with either 70 or 84 kWh battery packs, the latter of which provides up to 317 miles of driving range. It also does 0-60 in 4.7 seconds, which is impressive given its rather hefty curb weight that tops 5,000 pounds.

EP9

Finally, we have the EP9, an ultra-limited, ultra-fast electric supercar from NIO that has already set world records for the fastest lap by an electric car at the Circuit of the Americas, Shanghai International Circuit, and Circuit Paul Ricard. NIO sold a mere 16 examples to the public at a cost of nearly $3.5 million, a lot of coin for any car, but this one does 0-60 in 2.7 seconds and tops out at 217 mph.
