New Lightning

Ford unveiled the highly-anticipated EV version of its iconic pickup truck yesterday. The fully electric F-150 Lightning will be available to purchase starting in the spring of 2022. Pricing for the base trim level is reportedly around $42,000. There will be three more trims available: XLT, Lariat, and Platinum. The three upper trim levels are pictured above in red, blue, and silver respectively.

XLT

The XLT will come equipped with the Standard Range battery, 18-inch aluminum wheels with black accents, the new 12.0-inch touchscreen, cloth seats, and the 2.4-kW ProPower Onboard system.

Optional features for the XLT include the high-range battery pack, power tailgate, LED lighting in the bed,  20-inch dark grey wheels, heated seats, 9.6-kW ProPower system, Tow Technology package, and the Max Trailer Tow Package. In terms of driving assists,  Ford's Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0 package with adaptive cruise control, lane centering, and built-in navigation is available for the XLT.

Starting price is estimated at $55,000.

Lariat

One step above the XLT, the Lariat will get standard equipment such as 20-inch wheels, heated and cooled leather seats, 15.5-inch vertical touchscreen, eight-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system,  9.6-kW ProPower Onboard, and Ford Co-Pilot360 Assist 2.0.

The options for the Lariat variation are retractable running boards (also available with the Platinum) as opposed to the fixed running boards that come standard with all trims, power tailgate, BlueCruise, active park assist, and the tow packages. This trim also has an optional feature allowing the driver to use their phone as a key.

Pricing for the Lariat is estimated just above the XLT, at $59,000.

Platinum

The Platinum model received virtually all the features that are optional for the lower trims as standard. It comes with an extended range battery, 22-inch wheels, Nirvana leather heated and cooled seats, 15.5-inch touchscreen, and 18-speaker Bang & Olufsen sound system. You can expect both towing packages with the Platinum as standard too, as well as BlueCruise.

The only optional features that have been announced for the top trim level are Ford's maximum recline front seats.

Starting price for the rang-topping Platinum trim is expected to be around $70,000.

More to Come

Interestingly, not much information was provided regarding the entry-level base trim. But more info should be coming our way in the near future. Regardless of trim, the new Lightning is set to revolutionize the future of pickup trucks, offering even more functionality than ever before. Plus, they're Ford trucks, so they're built to handle everything you throw at them.
