I just found out something cool that I hadn't realized before. I pressed the button on my Prius door to lock the car, and heard a long beep, I realized that I had left my smart key inside the car. The Prius was smart enough to realize this and to not let me lock the key inside the car.

I find this to be a super feature for abstent minded people like myself! The smart key is very smart !

 

unless you turn off the smart key button located on the bottom of the dash under the steering wheel

 

I realized the same thing last Fall! I was very impressed. Way to go Toyota!

 

You also can't lock the car if you've forgotten to turn off the engine. A great feature for those of us who can't hear!

 

When Prius 2G first became available I remember reading many posts from new owners who tried to lock the smart key inside. Most common tries included rolling down one or more windows and even climbing out the window!!

On the practical side, when my wife and I exit our Prius we need to remember to take out the other driver's FOB, sometimes taking it out of a suitcase or daypack.
