Default Windshield Wipers Noisy

My THC windshield wipers make a loud thump at the end of each sweep duing a steady rain. The blades are fine but I find the thumping noise annoying. The dealer said this is normal. Does anyone have this problem?

Yes, oddly it started when I replaced my worn inserts with new Toyota inserts.
When the car comes back from the car wash, it does this less and I've seen many posts that attribute it to dirt/grime, etc.
Try a good cleaning of the glass and swipe the blades to remove any debris and see if that helps.

The "thump" that you are hearing can come from several things. The wipers hitting the edge of the windshield, excessive wear in the wiper system or a bad bushing at the motor. The first is usually the problem and can be caused by the wrong blade being installed or being installed incorrectly.

Thank you for sharing your comments. I will ask the dealer to check again. Problem is the noise occurs during steady rain, not during a light drizzle so it may be difficult to detect the problem unless it's a rainy day.

Tell them to flood the windshield with a water hose when checking it. The water will act like a lubricant and let the washer blades travel just a fraction more along their arc than they will dry or with a light drizzle.
