Whats the Belt do on the TCH
Whats the Belt do on the front of the TCH engine. Whats that small black pump in easy view with the belt on it.
I would think water pump, but that looks to be in the rear. It may be electrically driven for when the engine is shut off in the EV mode. It would be a benefit to the engine to pump the radiator coolant to help cool the engine even in the EV mode. Here I am guessing again.
Anybody know about this stuff.

Re: Whats the Belt do on the TCH
Speaking of Prius, it's certainly a water pump, and I believe the TCH is the same.
As talmy commented, the engine is easily cooled down, and I also agree to stop the water pump for keeping the coolant temp hot.
Please be aware that there is another electric water pump for heater supplying the hot coolant while the engine is stopped.
