Wait till summer break. Late July is the peak of mpg. Traffic reduction has much to add to it. Then it will slowly decline towards late January and then cycle starts again.

Welcome Back Summer Gasoline Prices!
Typically, summer prices are higher than winter prices (ymmv), negating some, or all, of your mileage savings
I believe, winter gas is formulated differently, causing a hit to mileage.

That and colder ambient forcing ICE to kick more often to keep cats hot. I keep saying - threshold is 50 degrees. Above it starts going up, below it starts going down.
Also, heater turned on keeps ICE running more.
