Toyota Platinum Extended Warranty - What's Covered
OK, so the following isn't covered under the Platinum warranty:
List of Excluded Components

Accessory Drive Belts

Batteries

Body Panels

Brake Linings, Pads and Shoes

Bumpers

Carpet

Chrome

Clutch Friction Disk and Pressure Plate

Dash Cover and Pad

Door Trim, Handles and Fabric

Filters

Fluids

Glass (including Windshield)

Headliner

Heating Hoses, Lines and Tubes

Hinges

Hybrid System Main Relays

Hybrid Vehicle Battery

Hybrid Vehicle Battery Module/Pack

Hoses

Interior and Exterior Trim Moldings, including but not limited to, Cup Holders, Ashtrays, Covers, and Vents

Lamps

Light Bulbs

Nuts, Bolts, Clips, Retainers and Fasteners

Paint

Rotors and Drums

Rust and Corrosion Damage

Seat Covers

Service Plug

Shiny Metals

Spark Plugs

Structural Framework and Wells

Tires

Vacuum Hoses, Lines and Tubes

Weather Stripping

Wheels and Rims

Windshield Wiper Blades (Rubber Component)
It seems like a long list. I am wondering what people's thought processes were in evaluating whether to buy the extended warranty. When I thought of "Platinum" as being almost an extended "bumper-to-bumper" warranty, I was 100% for doing this. Now I see the long list and wonder once you remove Hybrid components that are already covered by a longer warranty, and you exlude everything on this list, is this still a decent "investment"?
Does anyone know if you must get any repairs "pre-authorized" with some plan administrator? Any "catches" anyone can think of? I don't like to drop $600+ dollars on this just to get surprised later.
Thanks!

Re: Toyota Platinum Extended Warranty - What's Covered
I don't have a good answer for you. I'm just very wary. I expect to have an engine seize up, go in for the warranty repair and be told that it was caused by a loose nut that wasn't under warranty.

Re: Toyota Platinum Extended Warranty - What's Covered
In a way you are correct. I just called Claims at Toyota EW and he said that if that happened you would not be covered. How ever he has not ever seen that happen. I was amazed to see hinges not covered, The rep said they are a heavy wear item. O well !!!
there alot of other things that are covered. a/c ,ps, pb ,electical , and th list goes on.......
This being the first year for the TCH , there may be some bugs that might not show up in 36 m. So $645 for a extra 4 yrs ($161) per year is reasonable. Just my opinion.
Cheers.
