Just an FYI that may be helpful to people in the future:

I have a 2007 TCH that we picked up in early July 2007. Over the last month or two I had come to notice the brakes squeaking after initially starting the car up. The squeaking went away in fairly short order, but I still thought it unusual, so I mentioned it when I took it in for the 5000 mile service.

When the dealer -- Chicago Northside Toyota -- called to say they were done, the service writer told me he hadn't noticed anything unusual, but they decided to change the rear pads anyway. I'm sitting here now looking at the invoice, and I see that the entry on the receipt for that replacement says the replacement is "Per TSB BR007-07." I don't know what that TSB says, but I thought I'd mention it for whatever it may be worth.

There doesn't seem to be any squeaking any more.

I got this done at my 10k service. I initially asked if there were any TSBs and they said they only look for them if a customer complains of something. So I said my brakes were squeaky. They did the work and according to the invoice they applied TSB BR007-07 which included replacing both rotors, pads, and calipers. They also applied some white silicon between the pads and the shims.

 

I asked about a TSB covering squeaking brakes at my 30K service. The Service Manager said yes, and had the pads and shims replaced, cleaned and lubricated the caliper slides. My squeak on backing up is gone. I'm guessing there is a different compound in the new pads.

One change I noticed is the transition from regen to hydraulic braking ( around 5 or 6 miles per hour ) is smoother when coming to a stop now.

I've only had the car a few months now, but smooth or heavy braking feels the same.

 

Sometimes I can tell. Other times I cannot.

The most noticeable effect is a sudden decrease in speed/increase in braking force when it switches from reg to mechanical with no change in foot pedal pressure.

I agree with Nash that since having this TSB applied I have not heard my brakes squeak and the transition has been hard to notice (although I will probably be able to tell better in the summer when the ICE is on less).

Which dealership in San Diego was this? I bought mine from Kearny Mesa Toyota, but not too impressed with their service. BTW, does anyone know if this applies to 08s as well? I do hear some squeak when backing out of my driveway. Originally I thought maybe my wheels were rubbing due to the 18" rims, but now it may well be the front brakes. If it is, I'd like to get it taken care of. I have 5200 miles on my '08.

 

Toyota Chula Vista has an awesome service department. I've been quite happy with them. Ask for Javier Sanchez, he had the new TSB sitting on his desk when I was asking him about the sqeak. I do believe it covers the 08 model. I only glanced at the TSB, But I though it said 07 and 08 on the front page.

Upon taking my TCH07 in for 35K service, I mentioned brakes sqeaking in reverse upon starting. I then logged in to the forum and read this post.
Once I picked up on the TSB BR007-07, I wrote it down and went out and talked to my service advisor. I showed her the TSB number and she said. Yep we are already on it, she described in detail the kit, the reason and she said, depending on my VIN number it would be applied accordingly.
