Default I need urgent advise

Hi,
I just noticed that the used 2009 Camry hybrid, I bought from the dealer. They had it filled with 5W-30 Oil. The manual exclusively states to use 0W-20 or 5W-20 oil for the 2.5L engine.

Should I change the oil immediately or wait till I reach the mileage I need to change at.

Advice appreciated. Thanks.

How do you know what they filled it with? I hope you are not trusting the little sticker they put on the windshield to remind you of the next time they want your money. I would dig deeply to be sure what they used, as all dealers should be very much aware of what oil that car takes, and it is a common oil for many of the Toyotas.

This used car I bought from a Nissan dealer and prior to handing over they changed the engine oil and filter. On the receipt it clearly says they used 5W30 oil. Whereas the Toyota User manual says 0w20 or 5w20.

Should I get the oil changed to correct one immediately or can it wait until the next oil change?

If the dealer put in the wrong oil, then you should ask him to change it out to the correct oil. Thicker oil will mostly just hurt your milage and not damage the engine, but that is no excuse for improper maintenance using the wrong oil.

Also, the thicker oil may make the engine switching on and off, as it does frequently in these hybrids, rougher. It normally is barely noticeable to the driver, and typically not to a passenger at all, but with thicker oil, it will take a few more milliseconds to start up, especially when the engine is not fully warmed up.

5W-30 oil will only affect your mileage SLIGHTLY. The same engine outside of the US (and our CAFE stds) calls for 5W-30 oil in this engine. Just wait for the next oil change to swap it back.

replace it.
it might not even be synthetic. 5w30 is very common compared to 0w20. The dealership is just trying to nickel and dime you.
