Default Gas Tank Capacity

Maybe it's the "new math", but I just filled up. They few guage was near the bottom, my Nav. screen said that cruising range was 65 miles, yet the tank only took 12.65 US Gallons. I even topped it off. I thought the capacity was 17.1 US Gals? that would mean I have over 4 gals left, which even at my average of 32.1 MPG, I should have had a cruising range well over 100. Is cruising range really accurate?

See my post and the answer to it from this morning. I asked a similar question.

That said, 12.5 gallons is a little under a quarter tank left for me.

Maybe just as accurate as the 4 year old maps in the NAV system lol

Old threads on this indicate when the cruise range hits "0" and the gage at E, you'll have about 3 gallons reserve

I filled up once exactly at 0 miles to empty (MTE), the gauge was right on the E mark - took 14.4 gallons. I went 24 miles past E and put 14.8 gallons in on another tank.

My estimation is you have ~ 2 gallons in reserve when the needle rests on the E. The gauge reads noticably below E when you go further. I've gone 63 miles past E before and not run out.

Of course, even after "E" your range depends on FE. Getting 44+ mpg gives nash about 30 more miles than many drivers with their TCH.

I just filled up my car in preparation for our first long trip, and the little orange gas pump "warning" light was on, the guage showed about 1/8th tank of gas, and it took less than 14 gallons to fill it . The range readout said I had 20-something miles to go.

On a plus side: this was my best tank so far! 506 miles with an FE of 39.3!
